About Ben
Ben Sorkin is an independent educational consultant and the founder of Ben Sorkin Consulting, specializing in U.S. boarding school, private school, and college admissions.
Through his consulting practice, Ben works closely with students and families to navigate the competitive admissions process, offering personalized guidance on school selection, application strategy, essay development, interview preparation, and extracurricular planning.
Ben works with both domestic and international families, with particular experience advising students applying to selective boarding schools and universities across the United States. He also provides long-term academic and extracurricular planning for younger students preparing for future admissions.
In addition to his individual consulting work, Ben collaborates with admissions offices and school representatives to organize information sessions, networking receptions, and educational events that connect families with leading independent schools.
He currently lives in Los Angeles, CA and works with students from all over the US and abroad.
Background
Originally from New York City and a proud Specialized High School graduate, Ben went on to study at Harvard University and graduated with an A.B. in Sociology and a minor in Educational Studies.
At Harvard, Ben taught civics and government in Boston elementary schools, served as an Alumni Association Board Director, and worked on education and academic policy through student government. He studied abroad at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, and spent summers working in boarding schools and academic programs in South Africa, New York City, and Washington DC.
He holds an Ed. M. in Educational Leadership, Organizations, and Entrepreneurship from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

Ben served as an Assistant Director of Admission, coach, and diversity and inclusion practitioner at a highly selective New England boarding school.
Ben also taught at Harvard College in the General Education program and at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in a variety of courses in Artificial Intelligence & Ethics, Philosophy, Sociology of Higher Education, and Student Mental Health/
He has been assisting students throughout the college application and scholarship search process for 10 years, helping students achieve admission and merit scholarships to top schools across the Ivy League, Top Tier Public Universities, Small Liberal Arts Colleges, and Flagship Research Universities.
He has served on selection committees for multiple national college scholarships, and brings personal experience in selective admissions and a comprehensive understanding of the college and independent school landscape.
